About Us

The Cabarrus Arts Council was founded in 1980 in response to the North Carolina Arts Council's plan to establish a local arts council in every county. In 1982 the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners selected the arts council to serve as its Designated County Partner, receiving and distributing Grassroots funding from the state and the state arts council.

Today the arts council programs and operates the Davis Theatre and the Arts Council Galleries, conducts one of North Carolina's largest art-in-education programs for both the Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City school systems, supports arts organizations and artists through grants and workshops, and serves as a catalyst and consultant for public and corporate art.

MISSION – energizing our community through arts excellence

The Cabarrus Arts Council's mission guides every decision and action of the council. Excellence is the hallmark of all arts council programs and partnerships, stimulating community activity and vitality.

VISION – As the leading cultural resource in our community, we will be widely recognized for artistic excellence and diversity.

The Cabarrus Arts Council is dedicated to providing a wide variety of cultural arts programs that celebrate the rich diversity of our county and our world. Our insistence upon excellence and inclusion is earning a fine standing in the region's arts community.

OVERVIEW –

The Cabarrus Arts Council cultivates and promotes the arts throughout Cabarrus County. Actively providing connections among artists, cultural organizations and the community, the arts council acts as a catalyst, stimulating community development through the arts.

The arts council achieves this through the following services:

  • Providing grants for arts organizations and special cultural arts programs;
  • Conducting professional workshops for funded arts groups;
  • Educating over 30,000 school children annually with professional performances, Art Enrichment presentations, and gallery tours;
  • Curating five art exhibitions annually in the Arts Council Galleries, displaying art by artists of regional and national reputation and our best local artists;
  • Programming the Davis Theatre with professional touring productions in the On Stage at the Davis series;
  • Providing meeting space for arts organizations;
  • Serving as a key resource in making Cabarrus County a wonderful place to live, visit and work.
