Spectacular Broadway revues, riveting professional theatre and award-winning musicians can be seen on stage in the beautifully renovated Davis Theatre. Located in the picturesque 1876 courthouse in downtown Concord, the Davis Theatre occupies the former courtroom on the second floor. Recent renovations include the addition of a state-of-the-art sound system, stage lighting, and curtains. With 227 seats, the theatre provides an intimate environment that brings audience members close to the performers. Named for business and community leaders Roy and Sue Davis in tribute to their generous contribution to its renovation, the theatre is home to the professional touring series On Stage at the Davis, the locally produced concert series Jeff Whittington Presents, artist talks and classic movie nights.
The Galleries on the first floor of the building, which display works by regional and national artists, are open and refreshments are available one hour before each Davis Theatre performance and during intermissions. Audiences enjoy meeting their friends, seeing beautiful art, and sipping a glass of wine before curtain time.
What people are saying about the Davis Theatre and On Stage at the Davis
"Some spaces simply exude a warmth that exceeds usual definition — and this space is one of them. It's gorgeous. And it's the perfect size to put you in the middle of this broad palate of performing arts experiences on a completely 'up close & personal' level. There's something there for every taste. It's a line-up that comfortably seats blue jeans next to neckties, young hip next-gen concertgoers with baby boomer grandmoms. The entire place is stunning. And there's now a former courtroom upstairs that has been re-birthed into a very, very inviting and special home for performing artists and their audiences. Concord deserves a lot of credit for what they've done at that address. It has the potential for transforming a town." —Stephen Barefoot
