Get Involved
The Cabarrus Arts Council wants the community to be involved in our programs! Make new friends and learn more about the inner workings of an arts organization by becoming an arts council volunteer. We consider our volunteers essential members of the arts council team and we are always pleased to see new faces. Call us at 704-920-2787 if you are interested in any of the opportunities below and we will schedule an interview with you.
Get involved in The Galleries
Docents
If you want to learn more about visual art and artists, have three to six hours a month, and enjoy people, you will enjoy the arts council’s docent program. Our volunteer docents attend an orientation class to learn the basics of serving in this capacity and then participate in a training class for each new exhibition to learn about the new artwork and exhibiting artists. Trained docents volunteer for a minimum of three hours per month to greet gallery visitors and answer questions about exhibitions and the historic building. They also may help with special events in The Galleries such as artist receptions and Art Walks.
Get involved in the Davis Theatre
Ushers
Volunteer ushers are essential to a smooth Davis Theatre experience. Their primary job is to assist theatre patrons while providing for their safety and comfort. Ushers may be assigned to take tickets and escort guests to their seats, to assist the box office manager, to help with concessions or merchandise sales or to ensure that the performers’ needs are met. Ushers complete a general training class and arrive early for each performance to receive instructions specific to that event.
Get involved in School Programs
The arts council operates two programs in local schools that rely on volunteers, Students Take pART in the ARTs and Art Enrichment.
Students Take pART in the ARTs
Over 30,000 students and teachers see professional cultural arts performances through this arts council program. Volunteer ushers help ensure children’s safety as they get off buses, arrive and leave performances. They also help children and teachers get seated quickly and efficiently. These volunteers have the pleasure of seeing wonderful professional children’s theatre performances and the delightful response of our young audiences.
Art Enrichment
Art Enrichment is a great way to become involved in your child’s school and bring a wonderful new dimension to local education. Volunteers do not have to be knowledgeable about visual art in order to be successful as an Art Enrichment volunteer! The arts council conducts a training session to teach about our 1,000-piece collection and how to prepare a brief (15 to 30 minute) lesson, using the information that is printed on the back of each piece. Volunteers find this an enjoyable way to get to know the teachers in their children’s schools and discover that the children love seeing them each month. Orientation programs for new volunteers are held each fall.
