Broadway and Television Stars Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell to Perform September 25 at the Davis Theatre
A sizzling evening of music performed by two Broadway and television stars will open the 2010-2011 season of On Stage at the Davis Saturday, September 25. It Takes Two: An Evening with Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell includes showstoppers from Broadway, standards from the Great American Songbook, swing numbers, country classics and rock and roll. The show will be at 8 p.m. in the theatre in Cabarrus County’s historic courthouse. Tickets are $42.
Tickets on Sale Thursday for Davis Theatre’s Three Performing Arts Series
Tickets go on sale Thursday for all three of the Davis Theatre’s 2010-11 performing arts series. Located in Cabarrus County’s historic courthouse at 65 Union Street S, Concord, the Davis provides an intimate setting for performing arts with just 227 seats and state-of-the-art sound and lights. Tickets on Sale July 1 for Music, Drama and More On Stage at the Davis in 2010-2011
On Stage at the Davis will once again bring outstanding professional touring performances to the stage in Cabarrus County’s historic courthouse at 65 Union Street S, Concord. The third season will kick off with It Takes Two: An Evening with Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell, a Broadway revue performed by two critically acclaimed Broadway, film and television stars, on September 25. The season also includes Pianafiddle, an improvisational all-musical-genres piano and fiddle duo, on November 12; Galumpha, which combines stunning acrobatics, striking visual effects, physical comedy and inventive choreography, on March 5; Carrie Newcomer, a singer-songwriter who has toured with Alison Krauss, on April 9; and Blood Done Sign My Name, a moving theatrical adaptation of the book about the murder of a young black man in Oxford, NC, in 1970, on May 6.
‘Empress of the Unexpected’ Susan Werner to Present Concert Thursday, May 6
Susan Werner, the singer that NPR Music called “empress of the unexpected,” will perform Thursday, May 6, at 8 p.m. at the Davis Theatre in Concord. Tickets are $30. One of the defining artists in folk music today, Werner has cultivated a reputation as a daring and innovative songwriter with a spectacular live show. She boldly endeavors to weave old with new to create altogether new genres of music when existing ones do not suit her muse, and she regularly keeps audiences guessing and laughing simultaneously. Most of her work infuses traditional music styles and methods with her unmistakable contemporary worldview, constantly challenging listeners to experience music from a fresh and unexpected perspective.
Billy D. Washington Has Performed on HBO and Comedy Central, Now See Him at the Davis Theatre
Witty and philosophical comedian and pianist Billy D. Washington will bring his dazzling comedy routine to the Davis Theatre in Concord on Saturday, March 6, at 8 p.m. His original songs, parodies and comedy routine have been featured on HBO’s Aspen Comedy Festival and Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, BET’s Comic View and most recently the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Last Comic Standing (2007-08). After seeing him perform in 2003, Aretha Franklin chose him to open all her shows for the next three years. John Brown Quintet Performance-Cancelled
The snowy weather has made it impossible for the John Brown Quintet to travel to the Davis Theatre, and so tonight’s performance is cancelled.
Arts Council staff are working with the quintet to find a date to reschedule the performance. Once that decision has been made, all ticket holders will be notified.

John Brown Quintet Weather Announcement
In light of the weather forecase, the Cabarrus Arts Council wants to make sure that everyone knows the sold out performance Saturday evening of the John Brown Quintet at the Davis Theatre will go on as scheduled.
Arts Council staff will be monitoring the weather and road situations throughout the night and early tomorrow while also staying in contact with our performers who will be traveling from Asheville.

Warm Up with Jazz Saturday, January 30 at the Davis Theatre
The John Brown Quintet, which garnered national attention when its first CD reached number eight on the Jazz Week charts, will perform at the Davis Theatre Saturday, January 30, at 8 p.m. The award-winning jazz group specializes in playing music from the time-honored Bebop and Hard Bop eras, bringing new life to some of the best-known classics of the Great American Songbook and also introducing original music.
WAR BONDS: SONGS AND LETTERS OF WORLD WAR II COMING TO ON STAGE AT THE DAVIS NOVEMBER 14
War Bonds: Songs and Letters of World War II is a musical journey through the war that redefined the world featuring songs, drama, dance and multi-media images. The living history cabaret is interspersed with personal letters from the war front and headline news from the era. It recalls a time when Rosie the Riveter discovered she could take care of herself; when African-Americans, who were segregated at home, integrated abroad to become war heroes; and when a man’s only wish was to be home for Christmas.
