ARTIST KATHERINE GROSSFELD TO PRESENT FREE GALLERY TALK THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, AT THE GALLERIES
Artist Katherine Grossfeld, who paints commonplace domestic objects, will talk about her work Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. Grossfeld paints objects such as toiletries, candy and cleaning products. The set-ups are carefully composed, lit and painted through direct observation. Her oil paintings in For Real include depictions of a jar of jellybeans, a bowl of sunflower seeds cushioning a robin’s egg, a moth on a vase and a cupcake surrounded by candy and a snake.
ALMOST 30,000 SCHOOL STUDENTS TO SEE PROFESSIONAL ARTS PERFORMANCES THANKS TO CABARRUS ARTS COUNCIL’S STUDENTS TAKE pART IN THE ARTs
For the ninth consecutive year, students in local schools will be able to see a professional cultural arts performance without leaving Cabarrus County, thanks to the Cabarrus Arts Council’s Students Take pART in the Arts. Almost 30,000 students will see a total of 60 performances of mime, opera, drama, poetry or storytelling. For each performance, teachers will receive study guides to help them integrate the performance into the curriculum. The Cabarrus Arts Council partners with the Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City schools as well as local private, charter and home schools to bring the performances here. Students Take pART in the ARTs is sponsored by Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, Windstream Communications, Concord Printing, The Independent Tribune, Embassy Suites Hotel, Technologies Edge and Wingate Inn.

Since its creation in Calgary, Canada, in 1996, it has played for millions of people all over the world, including presidents, prime ministers and princes.
ARTISTS PATRICK GLOVER AND ROBERT TYNES PRESENT GALLERY TALKS SEPTEMBER 10 AND 18
The Galleries at the Cabarrus Arts Council will be hosting free Gallery Talks on Thursday, September 10, at 7 p.m. and Friday, September 18, at 10 a.m. Patrick Glover will talk about his paintings, including ones of cars in the rain that were shown at The Galleries this summer in the ELEMENTary – The Basics: Air – Earth – Fire – Water exhibition. Robert Tynes will discuss his paintings, two of which are on exhibit in The Galleries through October 10 as part of For Real?- Art of Deception.
