NEW EXHIBITION FOCUSES ON PORTRAYALS OF THE HUMAN FIGURE

An exhibition focusing on 13 artists’ renderings of the human body as vehicle for their artistic voice will be on display October 26-December 22 at The Galleries at the Cabarrus Arts Council. Artists include Robert Crum, Warren Dennis, Holly Fischer, Tim Ford, Jan Kransberger, Lukas Johnson, Eric Olsen, Osiris Rain, Joan Rasmussen, Mark Stephenson, Kate Long Stevenson, Beth Tarkington and Megan Van Deusen.

WAR BONDS: SONGS AND LETTERS OF WORLD WAR II COMING TO ON STAGE AT THE DAVIS NOVEMBER 14

War Bonds: Songs and Letters of World War II is a musical journey through the war that redefined the world featuring songs, drama, dance and multi-media images. The living history cabaret is interspersed with personal letters from the war front and headline news from the era. It recalls a time when Rosie the Riveter discovered she could take care of herself; when African-Americans, who were segregated at home, integrated abroad to become war heroes; and when a man’s only wish was to be home for Christmas.

MOVIN ON BLUEGRASS AND JEFF WHITTINGTON TO PRESENT CONCERT THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15

Known for spirited performances marked by powerful vocals, Movin on Bluegrass is the 2007 band champion of the Hartsville, SC, RenoFest. Its versatile repertoire includes bluegrass standards, original tunes, gospel classics and a few surprises, such as a bluegrass arrangement of The Beatles’ Hide My Love Away. The band plays throughout the Southeast and has recorded several CDs. The concert is part of Whittington’s Jeff Whittington Presents . . . series, which brings some of the best musicians in our area together monthly for a fun, casual evening. Tickets to the concert are $10 and advance tickets are available at the Davis Theatre box office 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Tickets may be purchased in person or by telephone, 704-920-2753. THE GALLERIES OPEN SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 FOR FINAL DAY OF FOR REAL? ART OF DECEPTION EXHIBITION

The Galleries at the Cabarrus Arts Council will be open Saturday, October 10, to give the public an additional opportunity to see the exhibitions and visit the Gallery Shop. The featured exhibition is For Real? Art of Deception, which includes realistic artwork in acrylics, oil, ceramics, glass and wood by 16 artists. Also on display is the Cabarrus Art Guild Juried Show, which is composed of works selected by Charles Mo, director of fine arts at the Mint Museum in Charlotte.
