MOVIN ON BLUEGRASS AND JEFF WHITTINGTON TO PRESENT CONCERT THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15
Award-winning Concord band, Movin on Bluegrass, will join bluegrass virtuoso Jeff Whittington in a concert Thursday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Theatre in Concord. The theatre operated by the Cabarrus Arts Council is located in Cabarrus County’s historic courthouse at 65 Union Street South.
The concert is part of Whittington’s Jeff Whittington Presents . . . series, which brings some of the best musicians in our area together monthly for a fun, casual evening. Known for spirited performances marked by powerful vocals, Movin on Bluegrass is the 2007 band champion of the Hartsville, SC, RenoFest. Its versatile repertoire includes bluegrass standards, original tunes, gospel classics and a few surprises, such as a bluegrass arrangement of The Beatles’ “Hide My Love Away”. The band plays throughout the Southeast and has recorded several CDs.
Movin on Bluegrass is led by guitarist Howard Honeycutt whose pure and heartfelt lead singing defines the sound of the group. Other members are Rick Blackwelder on bass and baritone vocals, J. C. Rowland on mandolin and high tenor vocals and Charles Honeycutt on banjo and tenor vocals.
Whittington plays several instruments including banjo, guitar and hammer dulcimer. He has been featured on movie soundtracks, on commercials and at various events in the area for more than 40 years.
