SUMMARY:Your Own Photo Made into Felted Landscape Art
DESCRIPTION:This is your opportunity to create a truly unique and customized felted landscape art piece. You select one of your own photos and send it to Lynn before class. She will sketch the photo onto a piece of 9 x 12 wool. It could be a photo meaningful to you or perhaps it’s a trip that holds wonderful memories for a friend or family member. What a unique gift it would make. Your photo could be anything from crashing ocean waves to a peaceful mountain sunset vista to a gently rolling pasture with cows grazing near a barn.  \nOnce Lynn has your photo you will let her know the color scheme you’d like incorporated into your finished. piece. She will select the wool yarns\, silks and other embellishment fibers to recreate your photo in wool. This is an intermediate felting class; participants should have a basic understanding of felting and some experience. It’s not necessary to have advanced skills. Lynn will assist you through each step of the process offering individual help including use of the silk and embellishment fibers to make your piece pop. You’ll also receive written instructions for creating wool landscapes. Participants should bring their own tools and felting pads. If you do not have these items\, let Lynn know at the time of registration. Arrangements will be made for the use of these items. For more information\, please visit www.cabarrusartguild.org.

SUMMARY:Surface Pattern Design with Lisa Albinus
DESCRIPTION:Surface pattern design is everywhere—on clothing\, wallpaper\, journals\, phone cases\, and more. Behind every one of those products is an artist who created a repeating design. In this class\, that artist will be you! We’ll start by drawing motifs—the small illustrations or shapes that form the building blocks of a pattern. Then\, step by step\, you’ll learn how to arrange those motifs into seamless\, professional-looking patterns using only Procreate on your iPad. No Adobe Illustrator\, Photoshop\, or Creative Suite required. Whether you’re curious about turning your art into products\, building a portfolio\, or simply exploring a new creative outlet\, surface pattern design is a powerful skill that opens doors to both fun projects and professional opportunities. This class requires the Procreate Basics class as a prerequisite.** For more information\, please visit the Cabarrus Art Guild website.

SUMMARY:Create a Goldfinch Needle Felted Fiber Painting
DESCRIPTION: Learn to use needle felting wool fiber to “paint” a picture.  We will be starting with a prefelt base (sheet of partially felted wool) that has a transfer of the simple photo of a goldfinch in a flower garden. Then\, using our fibers and needles we will try and recreate our picture in fiber (and of course use our creative license!).  We will be learning to blend fibers to get our results. Our “painting” will be an 8 x 10 picture which can easily be placed in an 11 x 14 mat and frame. \nThe materials will include fiber to complete the project\, 2 felting needles\, prefelt base with transfer of image of sleeping kitty and a foam work pad.    Students only need to bring a sense of humor and their imagination! \nIrene began needle felting (both 2D and 3D) in 2002 when the fiber art form was relatively unknown in the United States.  Since then\, she has won many awards for her work across the country.  She has produced an instructional DVD and is currently working on a needle felting book.  \nIrene lives in Western North Carolina near Asheville with her husband and fur family.

SUMMARY:Procreate Basics: The Artist’s Hand in a Digital World
DESCRIPTION:Learn the essentials of Procreate in this hands-on\, 3-hour workshop designed for beginners and open to anyone who wants to sharpen their digital art skills. We’ll cover the entire Procreate interface\, from creating a new canvas to mastering brushes\, layers\, masking\, alpha lock\, clipping masks\, color tools\, selections\, and export options. You’ll work step-by-step on a guided donut illustration project\, applying each tool and feature as you learn it\, and then transform that illustration into a professional-quality sticker design — ready for printing\, merchandise\, or use in digital applications. \nDigital art and AI art are not the same. In this class\, you’ll experience true\, hand-drawn digital art created entirely by the artist. Every brushstroke\, color choice\, and layer is placed with intention\, just like traditional painting or drawing\, but using the iPad as the canvas and the stylus as the brush. The artistry lies in the hand and mind of the creator — the tools simply help bring the vision to life. \nBy the end of class\, you’ll: \n• Understand Procreate’s interface and essential tools \n• Organize and work with layers effectively \n• Apply masking\, alpha lock\, and clipping masks \n• Use color palettes\, selections\, and transformations confidently \n• Export your work for print or digital sharing \n• Create a high-quality digital sticker design from your illustration\, suitable for multiple professional uses \nInstructor Bio: \nLisa Albinus is a professional illustrator and art educator with over 20 years of experience in both traditional and digital mediums. SUMMARY:Cabarrus Art Guild Workshop: A Taste of Paper Marbling: Japanese and European Styles
DESCRIPTION:Curious about paper marbling? In this half-day introductory experience\, students will explore two distinct approaches to this centuries-old art form: Japanese suminagashi and European combed marbling. We’ll begin with suminagashi\, the ancient Japanese practice of floating ink on water to create delicate\, organic patterns. This is an accessible (and very “Zen”!) entry point into marbling\, allowing participants to quickly begin creating original designs. In the second part of the class\, the instructor will demonstrate traditional European marbling techniques\, and students can take turns working on a shared marbling tank to experience these classic combed patterns firsthand. Participants will leave with a collection of their own marbled papers (which can be used in collage\, book-and cardmaking\, decoupage\, etc.) and a foundational understanding of Japanese and European marbling. No prior experience is necessary. For more information\, please visit www.cabarrusartguild.org.
