SUMMARY:Experiment with Patels for Fall
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun workshop to experiment with pastels and combining them with other art mediums to take your work to a new level! Students will explore and interpret a fall scene in a relaxed and encouraging learning atmosphere. Extra experimental art mediums will be provided as well as sanded pastel paper. \nThis class is appropriate for both Beginners and Intermediate level artists. \n  \nFollowing are suggested supplies. Extra supplies will be provided so it isn’t necessary to have everything listed here: Whatever pastels (soft pastels not oil pastels) you might have – NuPastels made by Prismacolor are a good choice to learn with – A backing board or drawing board (a half sheet of Dollar store foam core board works very well) – Baby wipes for your hands – A sketch book and soft pencils or charcoal – An apron or old shirt –  Artist’s tape or drafting tape – Table or floor easel if you have one – An old towel or piece of plastic for a table covering. \n  \nMalia Bryngelson is a pastel artist from Locust\, North Carolina. Exploring the study of color and combining other media with pastels are the current themes of her work. She has studied pastel painting with many nationally known pastel artists\, including Lyn Asselta\, Casey Klahn\, Karen Margulis\, Colette Odya Smith and many others. Malia’s award-winning work has been included in state and national exhibitions. Her paintings received a first place and an Honorable Mention award in the animal category of Pastel Magazine’s Pastel 100 Competition. \nContact Malia at maliabryngel56@gmail.com if you have any questions about the class.

SUMMARY:Rethink Graphite: A Botanical Drawing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’ve never picked up a pencil with any real intention or you’ve been drawing for years and are finally ready to understand value instead of guessing at it — this is the class! Truly understanding value\, and how to achieve a full range through continuous layering\, is the secret sauce that has driven my work for years. If you’re a beginner — fantastic\, you’ll learn SO much! If you’re an experienced artist — terrific\, you’ll UNLEARN SO much!! I promise this workshop will change your approach to graphite\, helping it claim its rightful place as a beautiful medium unto itself. Looking at my geranium\, a work in progress\, you can see how layering and textural mark making allow for gorgeous results. Please bring a sketchbook and pencils — 2H\, H\, HB\, 2B\, 4B — plus an eraser. For more information\, please visit www.CabarrusArtGuild.org.
