SUMMARY:Vibrant Landscapes in Oil\, Acrylic and Watercolor
DESCRIPTION:Based on the success of her workshop in September\, we have asked Lucy Tomova to hold another class for us in 2026. Join us for a fun and inspiring landscape painting class.  This class will help both beginners and experienced painters bring their landscapes to life with bold colors and expressive brushwork. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, you’ll explore techniques to make your landscape vibrant and full of energy. Whether you’re working in watercolors\, acrylics or oils\, you’ll learn how to use color to set the mood\, capture light and add depth to your work. Lucy will guide you step-by-step\, starting with a demonstration that shows you how to create dynamic compositions that stand out. \nYou’ll have plenty of time to practice\, experiment and work while receiving one-on-one feedback from Lucy. By the end of the workshop\, you’ll feel more confident in your ability to create colorful\, engaging landscapes and have tools to help keep exploring your creativity.  \nCome ready to have fun\, learn new skills and bring your landscapes to life! Lucy will bring a wide variety of photo references for you to choose or you can bring your own. \nLucy is a globaly acclaimed\, award winning artist known for her distinctive impressionistic style. She specializes in figurative\, portraiture and plein aire painting working primarily in oil and watercolor. Her art seamlessly fuses abstract and realism\, capturing mood and movement in a dynamic and expressive way.  \nLucy trained at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Special School of Fine Arts in Bulgaria.  Lucy immigrated to the US in 1990 and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.  Her work is displayed nationally and internationally.  She has conducted workshops across the United States.  Lucy moved with her family to Cary\, NC in 2010.  \nYou can view her work on her website: tomovafineart.com

SUMMARY:Northern Lights Wool Painting
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever dreamed of seeing the splendor of the Aurora Borealis in person? This is the next best thing to a Scandinavian vacation! Join Jennifer Costa for this exciting exploration of needle-felting techniques. The class will cover the basics of landscape needle felting as well as more advanced concepts as we create “layers” of sky and uncover the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).  \nThe $15 materials fee includes all the wool needed for your project (plus some extra)\, background craft felt\, a foam surface and a felting needle to take home\, and use of additional felting tools during class. If you already have a felting tool kit from a previous class\, bring it along. If you’d like to purchase additional tools (wooden handles\, needles\, finger covers) to take home\, let the instructor know at time of registration\, and she will have them ready for you at class for an additional $10.  \nThis class is appropriate for beginners and experienced needle felters. We’ll work together step-by-step through the project\, giving you opportunities to customize your piece along the way. The finished piece will be 8 by 10 inches and suitable for framing. Feel free to bring a frame\, either 8 by 10 without glass\, or 11 by 14 with glass and mat.   \nPlease bring a pair of small\, sharp scissors. \nJennifer Costa\, owner of The Woolen Palette (https://bit.ly/3W66HDJ)\, is a homeschooling mom and professional musician\, a Charlotte resident originally from the New Orleans area. A lifelong crafter\, she began needle felting in 2020 and offers workshops and sells her needle-felted art online and in a gallery in the NC mountains. Equally passionate about teaching and crafting\, she is excited to share her skills and ideas. She is especially indebted to the work of professional needle-felting artist Jaana Mattson (www.jannamattson.com) for many of the basic techniques in this class\, which Jaana shares in her book and live workshops.  \nPayment details will be sent at time of registration. DESCRIPTION:The Southern Piedmont Woodturners Association leases a large space here at ClearWater Arts Center & Studios (Studio 122)\, and has about 65-70 members. Southern Piedmont Woodturners (SPW) has changed its regular monthly meeting schedule for the New Year (2026)\, from 3rd Tuesday evening to 4th Saturday morning. Non-members are welcome to attend the first time for free. “Open Turning” and Workshop events for members occur regularly. Any participation in turning activities\, unless advertised as a Public Workshop\, is only allowed after joining the club and taking appropriate training.
