SUMMARY:Northern Lights Wool Painting
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever dreamed of seeing the splendor of the Aurora Borealis in person? This is the next best thing to a Scandinavian vacation! Join Jennifer Costa for this exciting exploration of needle-felting techniques. The class will cover the basics of landscape needle felting as well as more advanced concepts as we create “layers” of sky and uncover the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).  \nThe $15 materials fee includes all the wool needed for your project (plus some extra)\, background craft felt\, a foam surface and a felting needle to take home\, and use of additional felting tools during class. If you already have a felting tool kit from a previous class\, bring it along. If you’d like to purchase additional tools (wooden handles\, needles\, finger covers) to take home\, let the instructor know at time of registration\, and she will have them ready for you at class for an additional $10.  \nThis class is appropriate for beginners and experienced needle felters. We’ll work together step-by-step through the project\, giving you opportunities to customize your piece along the way. The finished piece will be 8 by 10 inches and suitable for framing. Feel free to bring a frame\, either 8 by 10 without glass\, or 11 by 14 with glass and mat.   \nPlease bring a pair of small\, sharp scissors. \nJennifer Costa\, owner of The Woolen Palette (https://bit.ly/3W66HDJ)\, is a homeschooling mom and professional musician\, a Charlotte resident originally from the New Orleans area. SUMMARY:Your Own Photo Made into Felted Landscape Art
DESCRIPTION:This is your opportunity to create a truly unique and customized felted landscape art piece. You select one of your own photos and send it to Lynn before class. She will sketch the photo onto a piece of 9 x 12 wool. It could be a photo meaningful to you or perhaps it’s a trip that holds wonderful memories for a friend or family member. What a unique gift it would make. Your photo could be anything from crashing ocean waves to a peaceful mountain sunset vista to a gently rolling pasture with cows grazing near a barn.  \nOnce Lynn has your photo you will let her know the color scheme you’d like incorporated into your finished. piece. She will select the wool yarns\, silks and other embellishment fibers to recreate your photo in wool. This is an intermediate felting class; participants should have a basic understanding of felting and some experience. It’s not necessary to have advanced skills. Lynn will assist you through each step of the process offering individual help including use of the silk and embellishment fibers to make your piece pop. You’ll also receive written instructions for creating wool landscapes. Participants should bring their own tools and felting pads. DESCRIPTION:This is your chance to create a customized wool painting. The wool is needed to create the design\, and some embellishments will be provided to further customize your piece. You can select a landscape\, floral design or other subject.  You will work with the instructor to define colors\, layout and potential embellishments at the time of registration. DESCRIPTION:Come experience the magic of needle felting. This is a great opportunity to learn how to create a wool-felt sprite or fairy for yourself or as a gift.  Meghan will provide you with the supplies (including felting tools to be used in the session) to create the fairy/sprite and mount it on a base for display. Meghan will have kits available in a variety of colors and you will be able to select your kit at the start of the class.  She will walk you through creating a wire skeleton or armature and then the techniques to cover the armature with wool\, add clothing and locks and then mount on a display.  You will be able to customize by adding a fun figure like a dog\, cat\, flowers\, birds or other items. Basic accessories will be provided\, and others will be available during the class. The instructor will assist you through each step of the process\, offering individual help as needed. SUMMARY:CAG Class: Color First Ink Later with Mike Daikubara
DESCRIPTION:An outstanding opportunity to use the color first technique to complete urban sketches.  This class will be held outside in an urban area and the instructor will provide tips and techniques to create urban landscapes. Sketching a complex scene can be intimidating at first\, requiring lots of planning\, lots of underlying line work\, and lots of time. It might even make you give up starting with the thought of all of this. But there’s an approach to make this go all easier using the “COLOR First INK later” approach. Contrary to the approach of line work followed by adding color\, broad watercolor washes of loose color are applied first using a mop brush to get started. Since details are hard to control with this brush\, it ultimately makes sketching easier and less intimidating since you’ll give up trying to control the colors. You’ll also quickly find out that it’s really hard to make a mistake at this stage since the colors perform their magic by mixing on their own and thus\, you’re actually controlling the colors. Once the initial layer of the color wash has dried\, ink brings the details and the focus of the story to life\, followed by additional colors and highlights to finish the sketch. This is all done using limited tools in a limited amount of time. The results?! The sketches are more vibrant\, dynamic\, and overall\, just fun! We will meet and sketch the outside exterior view of the beautiful Cabarrus Art Council building.
