SUMMARY:Landscape Workshop with Jeremy Sams
DESCRIPTION:We have invited Jeremy Sams to conduct this workshop as part of our 2026 grant program. \nCAG is able to offer this opportunity at subsidized pricing due to a grant from the Grassroots \nArts Program of the North Carolina Arts Council\, a state agency\, and the Cabarrus Arts Council. \nIn this one day landscape painting workshop\, we will paint along with award winning plein air \npainter\, Jeremy Sams. Jeremy will give step by step instruction on the basics of landscape \ncomposition\, achieving natural color and correct values\, and how to fine tune your painting with \nvarieties of edges and brush work. \nThis class is available for all levels from beginner to advanced and you will paint along with \nJeremy from a shared reference photo. During the process\, he will give personal one on one \ninstruction. All 2D mediums are welcome to attend but be advised that he will be painting with \nacrylics. \nJeremy Sams is an award winning representational artist residing in Archdale\, NC. He became \ninterested in art at a very early age\, winning his first art competition at the age of 6. At age 15\, \nhe took his first art class where he was introduced to painting. His love for painting sparked a \nnew change in his life and the beginning of a career was birthed by commissioned portraits and \nmurals from the local community. Through these small art endeavors and apart from formal \ntraining\, Jeremy was able to begin a professional art career at the age of 19. \nJeremy’s primary subject matter is landscapes while working in acrylics. He also loves the \nchallenge of portraits and his work varies in size from just a few sq. inches to murals measuring \nupward of 40’x60′. \nHis artistic growth took on a new form in 2011 when he was introduced to painting en plein air. \nThis same year\, he and his wife mourned the death of two children. Through this trying time\, \nJeremy found new inspiration and healing through painting outdoors en plein air. “Painting en \nplein air has become a means of therapy and release of emotion for me…Here\, I can enjoy God’s \ncreation and relish in the beauty He has given us to enjoy in this short life.” \n  \nMaterials you’ll need to bring with you: \nPortable easel\, brush cleaning container (solvents if necessary)\, rag or paper towels\, \nsketchbook and pencils\, canvas or panel (recommended 11×14 or smaller) \nBrushes: Jeremy uses a variety of synthetic bristle flat brushes from Silver Brush Ltd (sizes 12\, \n8 and 4) along with a small round and a small script liner. Feel free to bring your brushes of \nchoice. \nPaint: Jeremy typically uses Golden Open acrylics (feel free to use your favorite brand) and \nrecommends the following colors: Titanium white\, Ultramarine blue\, Cadmium red light\, \nCadmium yellow medium and Cadmium orange. Some convenience colors that are not required \nbut might be handy are: Teal\, Quinacridone magenta\, Viridian green\, Carbon black and Naples \nyellow.
