DESCRIPTION:The Piedmont Choral Society (PCS)\, the region’s premiere auditioned chorus\, is setting the stage for its biggest holiday season yet with the presentation of “Christmas Time Is Here.” The popular concert series featuring the 80-voice choir\, with orchestra\, will be held at a new\, expansive venue: First Baptist Church\, 200 Branchview Dr SE\, Concord\, NC 28025. Under the direction of Artistic Director Joseph Judge\, the “Christmas Time Is Here” program is designed to be the perfect “jump-start” to the Christmas season\, blending lively arrangements with treasured classical pieces. “I’m both thrilled and humbled to be conducting my thirteenth Holiday Concert with the Piedmont Choral Society\,” said Judge. “This year’s program\, ‘Christmas Time Is Here’\, blends the sacred and the secular\, featuring jazzy favorites like Barbara Streisand’s ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.’ We’ll also present two beautiful fantasy works by Ralph Vaughan Williams\, including the Fantasia on Christmas Carols. It will be the perfect ‘jump-start’ to the season!” The Piedmont Choral Society (PCS) is the region’s premiere\, all-volunteer\, auditioned chorus. Dedicated to enriching the community through high-caliber performances\, the PCS presents sacred and secular choral masterworks with orchestra and celebrates over 30 years of music in the Kannapolis\, Concord\, and Salisbury area. This project is supported by a grant from the NC Arts Council and the Cabarrus Arts Council. Admission is free\, no ticket required and donations accepted.

SUMMARY:Living Room Reading Series: The Boys in the Band
DESCRIPTION:Jonathan Ewart\, Director and Producer of the Living Room Reading Series\, is excited to bring the series back to OCT and the Wilson Family Black Box Theatre for its 15th Season.    The Series has planned a series of 9 readings for its Crystal Season. The events are held at 4 pm in The Wilson Family Black Box Theatre.   Jonathan covers the cost of each production so that all proceeds benefit Old Courthouse Theatre.    There is no set admission charge.     Concessions are available.   Mr. Ewart states that the Crystal season consists of nine award winning plays.  The Boys in the Band written by Mart Crowley.  Synopsis:  In his Upper East Side apartment\, Michael is throwing a birthday party for Harold\, As the evening wears on – fueled by drugs and alcohol – bitter\, unresolved resentments among the guests come to light when a game of “Truth” goes terribly wrong. Winner of the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. The Boys in the Band\, is a Samuel French Title and is produced by an agreement with Concord Theatricals. DESCRIPTION:Mountain Home Recording Artist Unspoken Tradition is about new\, original bluegrass. Inspired by their own influences and the roots of traditional and newgrass music\, this North Carolina based quintet brings a sound that is both impassioned and nostalgic\, hard-driving and sincere. Recent singles have charted in the Bluegrass Today top 5 including three songs to hit the #1 spot   “California”\, “Darkside Of The Mountain” \, and in January of 2024\, “Weed’s Don’t Wither” \nTheir material is mostly original and reflects the ever-changing culture of Western and Central North Carolina where they call home. The band has earned a fervent following in the Southeast\, selling out shows in Asheville\, NC as well as the legendary Station Inn in Nashville\, TN. They have also performed twice on the coveted Watson (main stage) at MerleFest. DESCRIPTION:Rowan Big Band will offer a free concert at Central United Methodist Church on Saturday\, May 31st at 4:00 pm\, featuring an 18-member traditional community big band in style of Glenn Miller\, Count Basie\, Duke Ellington and other great early twentieth-century bandleaders\, home-based in Landis\, North Carolina and specializing in Great American Songbook favorites and “Big Band Swing.” \nFirst organized in 2006\, the Band is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving this uniquely American Style of music and sharing our appreciation of it with others. The members of the band volunteer their talents for performances\, and the net proceeds from their musical performances are used to support worthwhile local charities. SUMMARY:The Special Consensus
DESCRIPTION:The Special Consensus bluegrass band is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2025. Their contemporary sound has made their music a modern classic. Band leader and founder Greg Cahill is a recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and was inducted into the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA) Hall of Greats. Special Consensus has received seven awards from IBMA and two Grammy nominations. We know that the Davis Theatre patrons LOVE bluegrass. Well\, bluegrass doesn’t get a whole lot better than The Special Consensus! They are no stranger to our area\, having performed numerous times for events with the Charlotte Folk Society and at other venues\, but this will be their debut at the Davis Theatre. They are bluegrass royalty and we can’t wait to welcome them to the Davis!
