DESCRIPTION:Brass Queens has developed a signature sound that sits right at the intersection of the Big Apple and the Big Easy: their music is deeply inspired by and pays homage to the New Orleans brass band tradition while injecting the upbeat\, multifaceted energy of their New York home into each performance. The result is a nonstop party: a Brass Queens show will have you singing along to classic pop hits\, dancing your heart out to reggaeton\, and feeling like you’ve been transported to Frenchman Street. In February 2021\, Brass Queens released their debut EP Royal Street on all streaming platforms\, and on October 27\, 2023 they released their first full-length album titled Black & Gold. \nThis is going to be a TON of fun! Imagine the Davis Theatre packed with incredible brass players\, a good funky drummer\, and all of YOU moving to the beat! We might not have Frenchman Street\, we don’t have subways and street performers too often\, but on March 21st Union St will be the place to catch that energy.

SUMMARY:CAG Class: Color First Ink Later with Mike Daikubara
DESCRIPTION:An outstanding opportunity to use the color first technique to complete urban sketches.  This class will be held outside in an urban area and the instructor will provide tips and techniques to create urban landscapes. Sketching a complex scene can be intimidating at first\, requiring lots of planning\, lots of underlying line work\, and lots of time. It might even make you give up starting with the thought of all of this. But there’s an approach to make this go all easier using the “COLOR First INK later” approach. Contrary to the approach of line work followed by adding color\, broad watercolor washes of loose color are applied first using a mop brush to get started. Since details are hard to control with this brush\, it ultimately makes sketching easier and less intimidating since you’ll give up trying to control the colors. You’ll also quickly find out that it’s really hard to make a mistake at this stage since the colors perform their magic by mixing on their own and thus\, you’re actually controlling the colors. Once the initial layer of the color wash has dried\, ink brings the details and the focus of the story to life\, followed by additional colors and highlights to finish the sketch. This is all done using limited tools in a limited amount of time. The results?! The sketches are more vibrant\, dynamic\, and overall\, just fun! We will meet and sketch the outside exterior view of the beautiful Cabarrus Art Council building. DESCRIPTION:Las Guaracheras is a powerful Latin Music sextet from Cali\, Colombia that performs Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as salsa\, as well as music from the Pacific region of Colombia. Their compositions and lyrics revolve around the revindication and recognition of the role of women in the music industry – especially in the Latin Music scene in Colombia – and seek to express the power and strength of women as sources of love\, hope\, resilience and creativity. \nSelected to form part of the 2025/26 Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Performing Arts Exchange (PAGE)\, Las Guaracheras have been featured at U.S. venues such as: Lotus Festival (IN)\, Freight & Salvage (CA)\, etc. and in 2025 will be at LACMA Latin Sounds (CA)\, Twin Cities Jazz Festival (MN) and others. They have performed in Europe and the Americas at venues such as: Sunfest (Canada)\, Cubadisco (Cuba)\, BIME (Spain)\, Portamérica Latitudes/FIMpro\, and El Zócalo (Mexico).

Dr. Sadie Leder will lead a special story time to tell us about the trouble Boopers the Bad Cat can get into! For the Adults\, Craig Johnson will be here all the way from Wyoming to talk about his popular Longmire series\, which has been turned into a popular Netflix series. Mary Alice Monroe is releasing her first adult book in four years and will be here to tell us all about it! We are also hosting Inspirational author Lauren Denton\, local author Emily Francis\, Peot Maurice Manning and new up and coming author Terah Shelton Harris. For the Teen group\, Megan Shepherd will be offering a writer’s workshop. SUMMARY:New CAG Class: Fairies and Sprites Needle Felting with Meghan McKillop
DESCRIPTION:Come experience the magic of needle felting. This is a great opportunity to learn how to create a wool-felt sprite or fairy for yourself or as a gift.  Meghan will provide you with the supplies (including felting tools to be used in the session) to create the fairy/sprite and mount it on a base for display. Meghan will have kits available in a variety of colors and you will be able to select your kit at the start of the class.  She will walk you through creating a wire skeleton or armature and then the techniques to cover the armature with wool\, add clothing and locks and then mount on a display.  You will be able to customize by adding a fun figure like a dog\, cat\, flowers\, birds or other items. Basic accessories will be provided\, and others will be available during the class. The instructor will assist you through each step of the process\, offering individual help as needed. Meghan will provide a variety of examples for you to use to in creating your fairy/sprite with basic written instructions. DESCRIPTION:Piedmont Community Band is excited to announce our inaugural Carolinas Community Band Festival on April 26\, 2025\, from 11 a. m. to 4 p.m. at the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center! A celebration of four local symphonic community bands and talent from right here in the Carolinas. Each band will give a concert of approximately 40 minutes\, allowing everyone to enjoy their music and experience their style. We will also have local music related vendors showcasing their services and products. Lastly\, like any proper get together\, we will host local food trucks for lunch and snacks! Admission is FREE! Help us put the ‘community’ in Community Band and support your local music programs with us this coming spring. DESCRIPTION:Born of a session in 1968 in Paisley\, Scotland\, and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill\, the Tannahill Weavers have made an international name for their special brand of Celtic music\, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. As one of the world’s premier traditional Celtic bands\, their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals\, topical songs\, original ballads and lullabies\, and humorous tales of life in Scotland. \nIt’s been too long since we had a fantastic Celtic band here at the Davis. Perennial favorites We Banjo 3 have unfortunately stopped touring\, leaving us seeking a new favorite live band from across the pond. Tannahill Weavers\, especially with the recent addition of Iain MacGillivray\, might be just the group to scratch that itch! With a long and storied career of songs and stories\, this group is world-renowned for the life they breathe into traditional Scottish and Irish music.
