DESCRIPTION:Ball in the House is an R&B/Soul/Pop a cappella group ​based out of Boston\, MA\, whose high energy shows have audiences ​singing\, dancing\, even beatboxing along! \nWith their extensive tour schedule (averaging 200 shows a year)\, Ball in the House has performed everywhere – from theaters to performing arts centers\, fairs & festivals\, to opening for some of the biggest acts in the world\, such as The Beach Boys\, The Jonas Brothers\, The Temptations\, Fantasia\, Gladys Knight\, Lionel Richie\, Jessica Simpson\, Blondie\, Smokey Robinson\, KC & The Sunshine Band\, Diamond Rio\, Colin Raye\, Orleans\, and numerous others. \nThey headlined the 2018 & 2016 China International Chorus Festival in Beijing\, won the 2016 Boston Harmony Sweepstakes\, and were voted 2014 APCA Band of the Year and 2009 Best of Boston for Outstanding Musical Performers. SUMMARY:On Stage at the Davis Presents: Jim Avett and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Born in March of 1947 in central North Carolina Jim Avett learned early the educational and entertainment value of storytelling. Surrounded and encouraged by parents\, relatives\, neighbors who were supportive in all things musical…and keenly aware of some very enthusiastic liars and storytellers\, it came naturally for me to play musical instruments and write stories all my life. My early life included several college years (U of N Carolina-Greensboro and U of N Colorado which produced 2 degrees\, but not a very smart man)! A 4 year enlistment in the US Navy ‘67-71’ (which produced no degrees but a smarter man). Attending night classes at Guilford Technical College (which taught me to weld and ultimately produced a 40 year profession in the construction industry). Married a girl (Susan)\, one of few who would put up with my creative ways. We produced 3 children: Bonnie\, Scott\, and Seth who have grown up to be contributing members of society. \nThere was music every day in my life from some source. It was necessary that I devote most of my waking hours to making a living to support my family. But when I wasn’t actually picking out music\, (in several throw-together bands)\, I made an effort to write and remember core stories which became songs later in my life. I love ballads and the value of teaching/sharing in songs\, lessons learned by observing others. So there is a strong presence of ballads in my material. DESCRIPTION:THE TAMS have been entertaining and thrilling audience for over 50 years! Known for such hits as “Be Young\, Be Foolish\, Be Happy”\, “What Kind of Fool”\, “I’ve Been Hurt” and “Untie Me #12 on the R&B Charts”\, The Tams have had Several Gold Records\, and 1 Platinum Single. “What Kind of Fool” hit #9 on the Billboard charts\, and #6 on the R&B charts. “Hey Girl Don’t Bother Me” hit #1 in the UK in 1971. While “Be Young\, Be Foolish” only hit #26 on the Top 40\, the single sold over 1\,000\,000 copies\, sending it to Platinum status. In 1986\, “Ain’t Nothin Like Shaggin’ ” hit #6 in UK Billboard charts\, before being banned due to the UK’s definition of “shag”.
