SUMMARY:Your Own Photo Made into Felted Landscape Art
DESCRIPTION:This is your opportunity to create a truly unique and customized felted landscape art piece. You select one of your own photos and send it to Lynn before class. She will sketch the photo onto a piece of 9 x 12 wool. It could be a photo meaningful to you or perhaps it’s a trip that holds wonderful memories for a friend or family member. What a unique gift it would make. Your photo could be anything from crashing ocean waves to a peaceful mountain sunset vista to a gently rolling pasture with cows grazing near a barn.  \nOnce Lynn has your photo you will let her know the color scheme you’d like incorporated into your finished. piece. She will select the wool yarns\, silks and other embellishment fibers to recreate your photo in wool. This is an intermediate felting class; participants should have a basic understanding of felting and some experience. It’s not necessary to have advanced skills. Lynn will assist you through each step of the process offering individual help including use of the silk and embellishment fibers to make your piece pop. You’ll also receive written instructions for creating wool landscapes. Participants should bring their own tools and felting pads. DESCRIPTION:Join the Cabarrus Art Guild\, a ClearWater Tenant Organization\, which coordinates and hosts these monthly Free Art Demonstrations by local artists for the enjoyment of the public. Location: Lower Level Greenway Gallery.  Please use the Greenway Gallery doors – double-glass doors on the Southeast end of the Main Building\, facing Kerr Street – and please arrive before 2:00 to be seated before the demonstration starts. Main Entrance will be closed. Free parking on campus (3 lots). \n\n\n\nA bit About the Art Form: Carolina Snowflake – by Melinda Pavelyev \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis craft design was first created by Billie Ruth Sudduth. Billie Ruth was born in Sewanee\, TN in 1945 and grew up in Birmingham\, AL. After college\, in addition to being a wife and mother to 2 boys she worked as a social worker and school psychologist. During summer break in 1983 she took a basket making class at the community college. She fell in love. In 1989 Billie Ruth left her job at the school to do basketry full time. \nBillie Ruth’s baskets have been on display at the Smithsonian Institution\, Museum of Art and Design in New York\, and other prestigious places. She was named a Living Treasure by North Carolina in 1997. This is the highest honor for North Carolinians in the crafting field. Billie Ruth died in 2021. \n\n\n\nNo need to register\nThe event is free and open to the public.\nPlease arrive before 2 PM\, so as not to interrupt the speaker’s\npresentation
