SUMMARY:Northern Lights Wool Painting
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever dreamed of seeing the splendor of the Aurora Borealis in person? This is the next best thing to a Scandinavian vacation! Join Jennifer Costa for this exciting exploration of needle-felting techniques. The class will cover the basics of landscape needle felting as well as more advanced concepts as we create “layers” of sky and uncover the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).  \nThe $15 materials fee includes all the wool needed for your project (plus some extra)\, background craft felt\, a foam surface and a felting needle to take home\, and use of additional felting tools during class. If you already have a felting tool kit from a previous class\, bring it along. If you’d like to purchase additional tools (wooden handles\, needles\, finger covers) to take home\, let the instructor know at time of registration\, and she will have them ready for you at class for an additional $10.  \nThis class is appropriate for beginners and experienced needle felters. We’ll work together step-by-step through the project\, giving you opportunities to customize your piece along the way. The finished piece will be 8 by 10 inches and suitable for framing. Feel free to bring a frame\, either 8 by 10 without glass\, or 11 by 14 with glass and mat.   \nPlease bring a pair of small\, sharp scissors. \nJennifer Costa\, owner of The Woolen Palette (https://bit.ly/3W66HDJ)\, is a homeschooling mom and professional musician\, a Charlotte resident originally from the New Orleans area. A lifelong crafter\, she began needle felting in 2020 and offers workshops and sells her needle-felted art online and in a gallery in the NC mountains. Equally passionate about teaching and crafting\, she is excited to share her skills and ideas. She is especially indebted to the work of professional needle-felting artist Jaana Mattson (www.jannamattson.com) for many of the basic techniques in this class\, which Jaana shares in her book and live workshops.  \nPayment details will be sent at time of registration. Payment is expected at time of registration.

SUMMARY:FREE DEMO: AI Integration in Creative Workflows
DESCRIPTION:Josh King is a creative producer\, storyteller\, and multimedia artist with more than two decades of experience in broadcast television\, design\, 3D modeling\, motion graphics\, documentary production\, animation\, and long-form storytelling. \n  \nA retired U.S. Army First Sergeant\, and creative producer in Mecklenburg County’s Public Information Department\, Josh brings disciplined leadership along with innovative strategic thinking to every creative project that he leads. Over the course of his career Josh has received various recognition for his work including two Emmy Awards for excellence in visual storytelling and production. \n  \n A lifelong learner\, Josh recently earned the Certificate for Applied Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology\, deepening his understanding of large language models and practical AI implementation. \n  \n To enhance efficiency in his work\, Josh actively integrates AI into creative workflows—using it for concept development\, visual prototyping\, automation pipelines\, and scalable content production. He is a firm believer that AI should be viewed as a force multiplier in the modern creative landscape\, and not a replacement for talent or creativity.

SUMMARY:Create a Goldfinch Needle Felted Fiber Painting
DESCRIPTION: Learn to use needle felting wool fiber to “paint” a picture.  We will be starting with a prefelt base (sheet of partially felted wool) that has a transfer of the simple photo of a goldfinch in a flower garden. Then\, using our fibers and needles we will try and recreate our picture in fiber (and of course use our creative license!).  We will be learning to blend fibers to get our results. Our “painting” will be an 8 x 10 picture which can easily be placed in an 11 x 14 mat and frame. \nThe materials will include fiber to complete the project\, 2 felting needles\, prefelt base with transfer of image of sleeping kitty and a foam work pad.    Students only need to bring a sense of humor and their imagination! \nIrene began needle felting (both 2D and 3D) in 2002 when the fiber art form was relatively unknown in the United States.  Since then\, she has won many awards for her work across the country.  She has produced an instructional DVD and is currently working on a needle felting book.  \nIrene lives in Western North Carolina near Asheville with her husband and fur family.
