SUMMARY:On Stage at the Davis Presents: Jim Avett and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Born in March of 1947 in central North Carolina Jim Avett learned early the educational and entertainment value of storytelling. Surrounded and encouraged by parents\, relatives\, neighbors who were supportive in all things musical…and keenly aware of some very enthusiastic liars and storytellers\, it came naturally for me to play musical instruments and write stories all my life. My early life included several college years (U of N Carolina-Greensboro and U of N Colorado which produced 2 degrees\, but not a very smart man)! A 4 year enlistment in the US Navy ‘67-71’ (which produced no degrees but a smarter man). Attending night classes at Guilford Technical College (which taught me to weld and ultimately produced a 40 year profession in the construction industry). Married a girl (Susan)\, one of few who would put up with my creative ways. We produced 3 children: Bonnie\, Scott\, and Seth who have grown up to be contributing members of society. \nThere was music every day in my life from some source. It was necessary that I devote most of my waking hours to making a living to support my family. But when I wasn’t actually picking out music\, (in several throw-together bands)\, I made an effort to write and remember core stories which became songs later in my life. I love ballads and the value of teaching/sharing in songs\, lessons learned by observing others. So there is a strong presence of ballads in my material. I currently live on a farm in Cabarrus County\, NC \nJoin us in the Davis Theatre on Friday\, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. to watch Jim Avett and Friends live! \n\nhttps://www.jimavett.com/\n
